It's a good thing we take pictures of our quilts before we're done...

Otherwise I'm not sure how long it would've taken me to notice the HUGE mistake in the layout of the new baby quilt! I still can't figure out how I laid it out, took pictures of the center, then pinned  those pieced borders into place without noticing that anything was wrong.

Once I found the problem, I got to figure out how to move one block to the opposite end of its row (that snowball block in the lower left corner needs to be in the top left  corner and everything else will fall back into place) while ripping out as few seams as possible.

Here's how I wound up doing it --

One long seam ripped, one block off the end of the row, and the border at each end of the row removed. Not that bad, considering how scary the mistake looked when I first saw it!

And this is how the quilt top was supposed to look in the first place --

Isn't it funny how we don't see it until we take a picture of it?

Haha! That's so true -- I've done that before, too. The picture really saved me from a lot of 'ripping'!! :)

I've started taking pictures at each step because I catch so many little things when I'm writing blog posts...I find it so weird that I can't see them in person! Love this sunny yellow quilt.

It is a great idea to look at your work by photo. I've caught a lot of mistakes that way.
Love your quilt and the color choices!!

Why is it that things are much clearer in a picture than on our design walls? Love this quilt -- such a pretty combination of pattern & fabrics.

So glad you found the mistake in time! I guess if you hadn't the recipient would have been saying, "That's an interesting pattern!"

My camera is my BEST quilting Tool! Even with that and an extra set of eyes at my Quilt Buddies I have gotten a few past my eye and didn't notice in time to fix.

I have done that too. Which is why I take pictures of my blocks and send them to my daughter. I am getting really good at unpicking seams!

Hooray for finding it before you started quilting and how nice it was a relatively easy fix :0)

Cute quilt and I'm glad you caught it! Funny, I seem to catch mistakes when I take a photo of my work too! Thanks for sharing.
