Not My Usual Quilt

I don't do wide borders and I don't do school-related themes...but I'm really happy with this little top.

It took me a while to figure out the direction of the novelty print. The numbers lean here and there but the people are always right side up. I'm glad I realized that before I cut the strips and put the borders on.

I've always wanted to make a schoolhouse quilt but I didn't want to mess with the templates. (Don't ask me why these are any different than the templates for Grandma's Donuts, but they are.) I found the pattern for this little house in 101 Fabulous Small Quilts and decided to give it a shot. The roof pieces gave me some trouble, but I've got a 4" square little schoolhouse.

Cute quilt. I would probably have cut the fabric before considering the direction -- then cursed a lot.

The little red house is so cute! I worked on a 9-patch baby quilt this weekend too! Great minds think alike.

That turned out to be a great fabric for the borders - super little top. The little red schoolhouse is so cute. I have made them in all sizes, and never used a template set. =)

Very fun projects! Love that novelty print. Those can be so hard to work with, but you used it well.

That novelty print was great for a wide border! Sometimes we just have to be flexible.
