vintage buttons in a vintage jar
We browse through a lot of antique stores, but I rarely bring anything back home with me. Mostly that's because I've been spoiled by Grandma for so long. All I have to do is mention that I'm looking for this that or the other thing and she can make it materialize. Like the first of the treadle sewing machines, which she just happened to have bought by accident at the auction a few weeks before I mentioned that I was looking for one.
This little jar of buttons, though, I bought for myself when we were in Arizona last summer. I'm not sure why, but it absolutely had to come home with me. I had it carefully wrapped, tucked away with the pots and pans we use for camping. And never managed to unwrap it until just a few minutes ago.
I'm betting that it was safer with the camping gear than it is where my boys can see it. So even though it looks very pretty on the fireplace mantel, it's about to find a new home.

Oh! It's almost like getting an unexpected Christmas present! I *love* the jar -- I got one similar to it for my birthday. And it's now filled with buttons, too. ;)
Lol, I bought myself a jar of vintage buttons at the antique store when I was doing my Christmas shopping. Is it bad that I busted into the jar and am using the buttons? ;-)
I have a jar of old buttons from when I was growing up on my sewing room windowsill! I am glad you unpacked yours to enjoy.
Beautiful spot for it, and what a lovely little splash of colours!
I love jars full of buttons! A great way to display them and SEE them! Hugs! ♥
That is a good way to store your buttons. I have seen a lot of these in antique malls, but they are pricey.
I love anything buttons......
You can never have too many buttons! What a sweet jar too, so nice to be able to enjoy them.
That is a double bonus, the buttons and the jar! Buttons are always a great find, and so much fun to look through. Have fun with them!
Button collections are always so dear - I'm sure many of us have memories of our mothers or grandmothers. They bring a smile to me whenever I see them.
I brought home my grandmothers Singer machine last year - it was a treadle machine and she had it adapted into a desk top one but alas the key to the case had been lost for many years. My husband took it to a locksmith for me and they made me a key and I finally got to see it after all this time. Yesterday I came across her manual to the treadle machine, so much fun!
Enjoy all of your treasures and Happy VTT,
Sally
The old "put it in a good safe place' thing. Glad you found your buttons and their cute, little jar. Enjoy.
You sure are blessed with your collection of antiques. Even more so with such a beautiful family.
I'm 72 years old and treasure my Grandma's gallon button jar.
I played with them as child. I learned to sew on buttons too.
My sons played with them throughout their childhood.
Now the problem is who will get that jar one day? :-)
I hope you let your kids love your buttons too.
Thanks for showing us your treasures.
Like everyone else, I'd cherish you vintage find too. I just love the memories tied to old things...especially buttons.
