One of the Reasons I'm Not Quilting Right Now

My teenager has been hogging my sewing machine. I wrote about it in this post. She wanted this dress. In the two weeks since then, she's gone from this (using the ugliest fabric in the sewing room to make a muslin and check the fit):

To this:

That's what she did with three Walmart sheets, a zipper, and a dollar's worth of buttons. And a picture she saw online. There was no pattern.  Edited to add - She's made a tutorial for the dress, if you want to see all of the figuring that went into this creation.

I struggled to make the possum costume. And I had a pattern for half of it.  Any claims I've ever made about being able to sew clothing....I take them back. I'm going to slink back quietly into a corner with my quilts and socks now and be grateful that my biggest complaint about my teenager is that my daughter stays up until 2am working on ruffles and pin tucks.

What an amazing talent! The dress is amazing.

At one retreat there was a lady who sells patterns for little girls dresses. She made several outfits. She laid the fabric out and then started cutting! If I hadn't seen it I wouldn't have believed it.

I think I'll leave the dress making to talented people like your daughter!

What a talented daughter you have!! I would be so proud of her that I'd be telling and showing everyone I knew. That is an awesome accomplishment and with NO PATTERN.! Amazing. She looks so cute in it too.

What a talented and very beautiful daughter you have. I can sew most anything with a pattern, but without I would have been lost. You must be extremely proud of her!

What a talent. She has the knack like my daughter. Em can look at a costume and drafts a pattern in her head. Takes after my mom who can do the same. The gene missed me. I can sew, but not do that. Is she in a clogging club? Great job. I invite you to link to WIPs Be Gone to show off this amazing dress.

Congrats to the daughter. WOW! Serious WOW!! L.O.V.E. it. And pat on the back to the mother for raising such daughter and encouraging her to discover and enjoy her talent. "The best teachers are known by the number of students who surpass them". Chinese proverb (I think).

I love your daughter's dress and would like to honor my mother (who sewed all of my clothes) by giving you and your daughter a sewing machine. I have an old Singer 404 that needs a good home. I rescued it from Goodwill and had it tuned up and new parts added to replace missing ones. It has sat on my shelf ever since. It is in great shape. I live in Hillsboro, OR and can meet you somewhere along I-5 if you'd like. Please say yes! Joyce
