A Bit of Practical Sewing

Iron-on Patch for Jeans

Would you believe that the first thing I used from Ila's wonderful package of goodies was an old-fashion iron on patch for my jeans? (That's also what I thought would be the absolute last thing in the box I'd ever use!) The hole was big, so I took a piece of denim from a pair that was too  far gone to save and put the patch behind that, then stitched around the frayed edge several times.

It's the first time I've patched my own jeans, but they fit and I really didn't want to shop for a replacement pair.  And it's not like I'm headed anywhere classier than Walmart.

  2. I finished my husband's pile of "to be fixed" this week also. Too bad his work jeans always gets the color on my bobbin. This week he got pastel pink and mint green. LOL. That's okay. They are work pants. I think he is proud that I patch them for him. I usually only have to patch a hole once and it is fixed. I zigzag over the hole with a piece of denim under it...over and over (like darning, but I use the feed dogs). Next up this week for me? Hemming all the pants our son got for Christmas. Yeah... Have a great 2017.

  3. Mending and fixing garments is the least favorite of my sewing jobs, but yes it can get quite interesting and challenging. Love how Kathy commented on the thread colors for her mending - yup :), but its mended! Great job, Michelle, and aren't 'well used' jeans the style now, anyway :)!

  4. Have you looked at the new jeans? A lot of them come with holes.
