When they want a Halloween costume that doesn't exist...

Right after I wrote that post about how my kids are happy with store bought costumes, my youngest made a request for a specific animal.  I had a strong suspicion we weren't going to be able to buy that one at Walmart, and an even stronger suspicion that we wouldn't be able to find a pattern. What surprised me is that I can't find much of anything online. I even tried Googling "stuffed" versions of that animal -- which got me some scary recipes.

So I'm on my own, and I've found myself arguing with other family members about what this animal is even supposed to look like.

Would you please tell me what this creature looks like to you?

So far, I've got a head and legs. The torso should be easy enough, and I've got ideas for the tail. And a feeling that I'm going to wind up making a new head because that profile just isn't what it should be.

I'm liking up to Design Wall Monday over at Patchwork Times. It may not be quilty, but this is the only project I've got going today, and if it doesn't qualify as "design" I don't know what would!

  1. Now you've got me wondering about the animal. Can't be a bear as you'd find patterns all over the place. But the ears look like a bear's. Hum, the snout looks more like a ... duck's bill? Maybe if I saw the tail I'd have a better idea! Good for you for making an orginal costume. I have a few clown costumes from days sewing for my kids. My grand daughter isn't interested in the little one -- too scary. But on the other hand it is too big for her right now. Looking forward to finding out what this is going to be!

  4. ROUS? But I don't believe they exist. Maybe a possum, but it's a little too cute to be either one!

  5. I couldn't come up with any ideas but after reading the comments, I would go with kangaroo too. Or maybe some character in a Harry Potter movie. I admire you for tackling this challenge for your kids. You are a super mom!

  6. I think it looks like a possum. Is your son a fan of Pogo?

Hmm I think it looks like a fox, in particular Fantastic Mr Fox.

  9. hm, I am not sure what animal, but I am worried about the fact that I can't see his face, and wondering how he is breathing! LOL, I'm sure you have that worked out.

  10. In this picture his face is turned towards the wall. In the other pictures, he was making disgusted faces.

His eyes are completely exposed. So he can see clearly. And it's based off on online instructions for fleece ski masks. He can breathe. Or pull the animal nose down to expose his entire face.

  12. Can't wait to find out what animal this is. I was thinking Rat but now I am not sure.
I have loads of toy patterns that could help if you are still stuck - and want to reveal what this is.
