Last year, I tried to get the bees to land on a quilt. They wouldn't cooperate, not even when the quilt was drenched in sugar water. Anything else with a bit of sugar on it will draw bees, but not a quilt. Hubby said I should've tried honey, but not grocery store honey because that's bad for the bees.
This year I pulled out a quilt that I hadn't shown on the blog in a while and already needed a trip through the washer. I sprinkled some honey on one of the buzz saws and spread it out in a good spot. Eventually, after three days of waiting and checking, some ants came and ate the honey.
So I gave up and borrowed my daughter's hedgehog, Josephine.
I made this quilt back in 2009, using a pattern I'd found on a magazine's website and a bundle of fabrics from Connecting Threads. It was promptly claimed by the boys and I see it wrapped around them now and then. Chickens, for the record, will come stand on your quilt whether you want them near it or not.
Hedgehogs are always better than bees and Josephine is adorable. Beautiful quilts too.
ReplyDeleteLove the quilts! hedgehogs are cute- have not seen one before!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. What a riot! Love the quilt and the hedgehog.
ReplyDeleteToo funny! Josephine is adorable :-)
ReplyDeleteYour hedgehog is priceless. I'm thinking it would have been a tough job to get a good picture of a bee and do the quilts justice at the same time.
ReplyDeleteperhaps you just discovered a new holistic approach for people who have bee allergies ? Forget Epi-Pens, give them a quilt !
ReplyDeleteohhh that lil hedge hog is so cute. It looks just adorable.
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up!! Love the hedgehog. It is so cute, it doesn't look real. Is it? And the chickens, oh, my, how funny!
ReplyDeleteThat's funny about the chickens. I live in the city. I knew my neighbor had a pygmy goat. I was astonished when my grandson said "Ga, you have a chicken in your back yard!" When I looked I had two chickens. I am a cancer survivor and have a compromised immune system, so animal control came out. I don't care if he has chickens, I don't want their poop in my yard. I'm not obsessed with my immune system - I don't wear gloves when I wash dishes, etc., but I just don't want that in my yard. It turns out the goat was illegal and he has illegal bees. He agreed to get rid of the goat and chickens and do what he had to do to get in code with the bees. I didn't do it to make him get rid of them, I just didn't want them in my yard. That is so funny.
ReplyDeleteJosephine looks adorable on the quilt. It's really her colors!
ReplyDeleteWell...at least if the chicken has laid an egg as a gift for the beautiful quilt, then all is well. :)
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,

I remember the bees from last year...that was hilarious. Josephine looks gorgeous on that beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute hedgehog!
ReplyDeleteJosephine is really cute, and (I'd never thought I'd say something like this of a hedgehog)the colors of the quilt complement her complexion!
ReplyDeleteThis is a hilarious post! Love it! I think hedgehogs are just so adorable!

ReplyDeleteChickens and hedgehogs oh my! We don't have such things in the big city...loved your photos.
ReplyDeleteI am cracking up! You could have claimed the ants as pets! The hedgehog though was a better match for your lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteCutest hedgehog! I like the chickens too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great model. Such a cute Hedgehog and beautiful quilt too. Those chickens may soon expect you each to make a quilted coat or blankee for EACH one of them. Have you not heard there is a campaign to keep the chickens warm by way of knitting them a hat? (http://sewcalgal.blogspot.ca/2013/04/quilty-news-reports.html)

ReplyDeleteI love the hedgehog. It looks just like the one in the Beatrix Potter story. Of course the quilt is lovely too. I can't say that I like the idea of attracting bees. I am glad you went with the hedgehog.

That's a cute hedgehog, pretty quilt too.
ReplyDeleteI would love a pet hedgehog!! Thanks so much for sharing these photos and to your daughter for the loan of that bundle of cuteness.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute hedgehog! My children would love so much if we'd had one. :) That is really surprising about the bees - I wonder if it were a floral quilt if they'd be successfully enticed to it? I can't believe they wouldn't even come to honey. lol!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute little pet!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable hedgehog! I have chickens too and I can't even imagine laying a quilt out with them so close--LOL!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Josephine is so sweet. Bees would have been very original and chickens are a fun idea too. Good luck with your entry!
