a bad night for free motion quilting
It wasn't the best night for free motion quilting. On one 36" square baby quilt, I managed to get the edge of the backing tucked under and quilted down (I do that dumb trick more often than I want to admit), quilted a scrap of fabric to the back of the quilt, and broke two needles within five minutes. Now the last needle I own is in my machine and I'm hoping I don't break that one before my next trip to town.
But I'll have a finish to show you tomorrow!
You're not alone. I'd hate to count the number of times I have done that.
ReplyDeleteAnytime I have a sewing day like that, I have to stop what I'm doing and come back later, or I just start making more mistakes bacause I'm fustrated.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, now I know some of the things to watch for when I quilt the quilt I'm working on.
Those are the kinds of nights I throw my hands up and put a movie in the player. Good for you for persevering! :)
ReplyDeleteheh. it's not just me. i do that every time. your quilting is quite lovely!
ReplyDeleteBut this quilt is so beautiful and your FMQ looks great, it may be like giving birth (you quickly forget about the painful night).
ReplyDeleteGreat job!

It's probably just one of those days :) Hope tomorrow goes better for you. It looks great so far!
ReplyDeleteYour quilting on the front looks WONDERFUL!! I started purchasing a pack of needles whenever I visit the Amish whether I think I need them or not. It's made that "last needle" fear subside.
ReplyDeleteWe all have those days lol. I think we're related. I went through 3 needles, 1 on the serger, sewed the back under, then called it quits when the bobbin ran out. Went to the kitchen to get a snack - dropped the dish and it smashed into a million pieces. ^*%#@$(#@*$&@#^!@ Tomorrow should be better. Right? Anyone?
ReplyDeleteWorking on an Art Quilt for a donation to the Virginia Quilt Museum silent auction.....all free motion quilting using multiple thread colors.....sewed a 1/4 yard of fabric to the back by mistake.....picked that ALL out (2 hours)......yesteray I decided I didn't like one of my "quilted flowers"....10 minutes of free motion; 1 1/4 hours of "unsewing." We do get better, but sometimes it is a struggle......
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are amazing. I'm trying to draft some of your patterns to make myself for charity, too. I'm stuck on the setting triangles for the pieced heart block. I've tried all day but I can't get it right. Are you allowed to post anymore directions for that one. I'd be so grateful.
