The Most Suitable "Unsuitable" Fabric

At the quilting group a couple of weeks ago, there was a table full of fabric up for grabs. Someone had deemed it unsuitable for our donation quilts and I guess if I really think about it I can understand why this print was on the table.

It might not be a good choice for the quilts we're putting together, but it made a pretty fantastic project bag!

I was always one of those stitchers who carries around her project in whatever's handy. That was a clear Zip Loc on a good day and a slightly torn plastic grocery sack on the rest. None of the lectures about how "Your work is worth better than that" or "Something will get thrown away by accident" made any difference.

These project bags, especially the ones with the clear fronts, are curing me of that. They're nice and pretty and if I actually use them on a consistent basis I'll need to make more.

How about you? Do you carry your projects around in something nice -- or whatever's handy?

This is the best vinyl project bag I've seen--can you tell us the pattern, or did you just wing it? It's very nice. And I love your vintage spools! Always something interesting on your blog. Thanks so much for blogging and sharing your projects, finds, and ideas.

I use cloth bags a lot and also plastic storage cases with snap lids. I would never criticize anyone else's choices on how to carry their projects around! You are probably too polite to say something like, "Thank you so much for your unasked-for opinion." ;)

Yes, wonderful pattern. Far better than a plastic shopping bag. That fabric, I actually do love it as well.

Great pouch Michelle!
I tend to carry my small projects in tiny clear plastic bags which travel in one of my stitched "rucksacks".
Larger projects are carried in large newish carrier bags, and hopefully won't be mistaken for rubbish!
But I have to admit to having quite a few plastic bags of scrap fabrics or fat quarters in different rooms of our house .... just ready for that brainwave idea!
I can see I need to make some pouches to keep my treasures safe, as well as a new rucksack! Thanks for the idea!

That's a great little bag. I've never sewen on vinyl - is it difficult? And do you need to use a special needle, perhaps? Any tips would be gratefully received.

Oh that does make a very appropriate project bag. I've got quite a nice collection of little and big bags so I tend to grab one off the pile but my poor sock knitting just gets shoved into a corner of my handbag!!

PERFECT for a project bag!! I usually carry mine around in tote bags that I've sewn for that purpose. More room for bigger projects!

I think that fabric is appropriately appropriate for a project bag :) The pouch is pretty ... and useful!

That is the perfect fabric for a project bag. I usually have a tote bag that I made with my saved selvages to carry most everything!
